Madras HC clears retail shops project around Cuddalore playground

The Madras High Court has granted permission for the construction of 110 shops around the Manjakuppam playground in Cuddalore, Tamil Nadu. A bench comprising Chief Justice Sushrut Arvind Dharmadhikari and Justice G. Arul Murugan delivered the order, backing the dual-purpose project.

According to the court's reasoning, the proposed retail structures would fulfill a commercial objective while simultaneously serving as a protective boundary for the playground. The bench found merit in this arrangement, viewing it as an efficient utilization of space that would benefit both traders and the community.

The decision comes as authorities in the district pursue infrastructure development initiatives. The Manjakuppam playground, a public facility in Cuddalore, will now be ringed by the commercial establishments once construction begins. The court's approval marks a significant step forward for the project, which had likely faced earlier scrutiny or opposition.

With the High Court's clearance, the project is expected to proceed to the implementation stage. Local authorities will now oversee the construction phase, subject to applicable municipal regulations and building bylaws.
