Madras High Court bans unauthorised copying of Suriya film Scene

The Madras High Court has issued an interim injunction prohibiting the unauthorised camcording, uploading, downloading and streaming of the Suriya-starrer film Scene, granting relief to the film's production company. Justice P.B. Balaji passed the order in response to a copyright infringement suit filed by Zhagaram Studios LLP, the film's producers.

The interim injunction seeks to protect the film's intellectual property rights and prevent its unauthorised distribution across digital platforms. The order directs parties from engaging in any activity that would compromise the film's copyright protection during the pendency of the case.

The ruling comes amid growing concerns within the Indian film industry about piracy and unauthorised distribution of content. Production houses have increasingly approached courts for injunctions to safeguard their creative works from being illegally reproduced and shared online.

The case now proceeds to the merits stage, where the court will examine the substantive claims of copyright infringement raised by Zhagaram Studios LLP. The interim order remains in effect until the court determines the matter further.
