Madras High Court halts unauthorised screenings of Rajinikanth and Shivarajkumar films

The Madras High Court has intervened to prevent unauthorised exhibition of two major film releases, imposing interim injunction orders on individual copyright infringement suits. Justice P.B. Balaji granted the protective orders in response to petitions filed by Sun TV Network Limited and KVN Productions LLP, the respective copyright holders for the films.

The injunction comes as a significant development in the court's efforts to combat film piracy and protect producers' intellectual property rights. The orders are expected to restrain unauthorised parties from screening, distributing, or exhibiting the films without proper licensing agreements.

Jailer 2, starring veteran actor Rajinikanth, and Bail, featuring Kannada actor Shivarajkumar, represent substantial investments by their respective production houses. The high court's action underscores the judicial system's commitment to safeguarding creative content and ensuring that producers receive legitimate revenue from their productions.

The interim injunction orders will remain in effect pending the full resolution of the copyright infringement cases. Both production companies had approached the court seeking protection against unauthorised theatrical and digital releases of their films, citing potential losses from piracy and illicit distribution channels.
