Madras High Court Issues Notices in ₹1-Crore Defamation Case Against DMK

The Madras High Court has initiated proceedings in a ₹1-crore defamation case filed by Tamil Nadu Minister Aadhav Arjuna against DMK president M.K. Stalin and the party's information technology wing. Justice K. Govindarajan Thilakavadi issued the orders on Tuesday, directing the parties to respond to the legal notice.
The defamation suit stems from a social media post published on X on June 8, 2026, which prompted the Minister to approach the court. Arjuna subsequently filed the case seeking damages of ₹1 crore, contending that the post was defamatory in nature.
With notices now formally issued, Stalin and the DMK IT wing have been given time to file their response. Justice Thilakavadi has set September 15, 2026, as the date by which the returnable notices must be submitted to the court.
The case adds to ongoing political tensions between the DMK-led state government and opposition parties in Tamil Nadu. The court's intervention marks the latest in a series of legal disputes involving senior political figures in the state.
