Madras High Court reaches 67-judge strength with two new appointments

Chief Justice Sushrut Arvind Dharmadhikari administered the oath of office to Justices D. Lingeswaran and B. Karthikeyan during the ceremony held on Thursday at the historic courthouse in Chennai. The induction of the two judges marks a significant step toward strengthening the court's judicial capacity as it handles an expanding caseload across multiple benches.

Justice Lingeswaran and Justice Karthikeyan join an expanded bench that now operates at full operational strength of 67 judges. The appointments are expected to facilitate faster case disposal and reduce pendency across civil, criminal, and commercial matters handled by the court.

The Madras High Court, one of India's oldest and most significant high courts, serves the states of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. With the additional judges now in position, the court aims to enhance its efficiency in addressing the substantial volume of litigation that flows through its various divisions, including the principal seat in Chennai and its benches across the region.
