The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) recorded the earthquake at 8:54 a.m., with its epicenter positioned approximately 47 kilometers north-northwest of Palauig town. The tremor originated at a depth of just 10 kilometers, according to Phivolcs data.
The quake's coordinates were pinpointed at 15.46°N latitude and 119.47°E longitude, placing it in the waters off Zambales' northern coast. Phivolcs did not immediately report significant damage or casualty reports from the moderate-strength earthquake.
The tremor was part of ongoing seismic activity in the region, which sits along the Philippine archipelago's tectonically active Ring of Fire. Residents across northern Luzon likely felt the tremor, though earthquakes of this magnitude typically cause minimal structural damage to buildings constructed to modern standards.
