Maguindanao del Sur mayor welcomes arrest in RPG ambush case

COTABATO CITY – Authorities have arrested one of the suspects accused of launching a rocket-propelled grenade attack against Mayor Akmad Mitra Ampatuan Jr. of Shariff Aguak in Maguindanao del Sur, prompting praise from the local chief executive.
The suspect, identified as Toraipe Lusod, was taken into custody on Saturday, October 24, in Barangay Meta, Datu Unsay, Maguindanao del Sur. Mayor Ampatuan commended the police operatives involved in the arrest.
The ambush against the mayor occurred on January 25. The RPG attack marked a serious security incident in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.
The arrest represents progress in what has been an ongoing investigation into the attack. Authorities have not disclosed details regarding the motive behind the ambush or whether additional suspects remain at large in connection with the incident.
