Maguindanao Mayor Arrested Over Ambush of Fellow Official
An Iligan City court has issued an arrest warrant for Mayor Xyril Ampatuan of Datu Unsay, Maguindanao del Sur, along with 11 others, in connection with a terrorism case stemming from the ambush of Mayor Akmad Ampatuan of Shariff Aguak earlier this year.

Regional Trial Court Judge Alberto Quinto of Iligan City issued the arrest order on Friday against Mayor Ampatuan and his co-accused in relation to the attack on the Shariff Aguak municipal leader that occurred in the opening months of 2024.
The charges filed against the defendants include terrorism-related offenses connected to the ambush incident. The case represents a significant development in efforts to hold local officials accountable for alleged involvement in violent crimes within Maguindanao del Sur.
