Mahadev betting racket mastermind arrested as probe intensifies

Sridhar Chandrakar, the principal architect behind the sprawling Mahadev betting app syndicate, has been brought back to India following his arrest abroad, signalling a significant development in one of the country's largest illicit gambling operations. The betting network, which operated across multiple states, accumulated approximately ₹6,000 crore in illegal transactions before being dismantled by federal agencies.

The repatriation of Chandrakar has reinvigorated the multi-agency investigation into the racket's operational structure, funding mechanisms, and network of intermediaries. Probe teams are now examining his role in establishing the digital infrastructure that enabled the illegal betting platform to operate with relative impunity across India.

Authorities have simultaneously escalated coordination with United Arab Emirates officials to secure the extradition of Ravi Uppal, identified as the betting application's co-founder, who remains based in Dubai. The move signals investigators' determination to apprehend all key figures involved in orchestrating the syndicate's activities.

The Mahadev case has exposed vulnerabilities in India's regulatory oversight of digital financial transactions and highlighted the scale at which underground betting operations can flourish. The investigation has already resulted in the identification of numerous intermediaries, collection agents, and financial facilitators operating across multiple jurisdictions.
