Mahanagar Gas raises CNG prices amid surging LNG costs

Mahanagar Gas Limited (MGL), which supplies natural gas to Mumbai and surrounding regions, has implemented a fresh round of price increases effective immediately. Compressed natural gas (CNG) prices have been raised by ₹2 per kilogram, bringing retail rates to ₹88 per kg at its pumps across the city.

The price adjustment reflects ongoing volatility in liquefied natural gas (LNG) markets, which continue to experience elevated global costs. Domestic piped natural gas (PNG) for residential consumers has similarly been adjusted upward by ₹1 per standard cubic metre (SCM) in tandem with the CNG increase.

The state-controlled utility, which operates India's largest city gas distribution network, has been absorbing cost pressures from international LNG price movements. Rising global energy demand and supply constraints have kept LNG quotations elevated, prompting periodic price reviews by city gas distributors across the country.

Mumbai's CNG prices remain among the most closely watched retail fuel rates in India, given the city's reliance on natural gas for transportation and domestic consumption. MGL serves over 2.5 million customers across its distribution areas, making price movements significant for both household and commercial users.
