Maharashtra's data centre sector is experiencing unprecedented momentum, with the state attracting over $300 billion in investment interest from domestic and international players. The state currently dominates India's data centre landscape, accounting for 66 per cent of the country's total capacity. This commanding position stems from Maharashtra's advanced telecommunications infrastructure, reliable power supply, skilled workforce, and proximity to major financial and technology hubs, particularly in Mumbai.
To maintain its leadership, Maharashtra has set an ambitious target of expanding data centre capacity to 5.7 gigawatts by 2032. This expansion aligns with the state government's broader economic roadmap to establish Maharashtra as a trillion-dollar economy within the decade, positioning data centre infrastructure as a critical pillar of growth.
Industry analysts attribute the investment surge to accelerating digital transformation across sectors including finance, e-commerce, and telecommunications. The growing demand for cloud services, artificial intelligence capabilities, and data analytics has created sustained opportunities for data centre operators in the region.
