Maharashtra's Chief Electoral Officer's office confirmed that the compilation and publication of discrepancy lists is still in progress, being handled at the Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) level across constituencies. Officials declined to provide a specific timeline for when the comprehensive lists would be made public.
These lists, which identify potential errors in voter registration data and individuals yet to be formally mapped in electoral rolls, are considered critical for ensuring electoral integrity. The delayed release has raised questions about the readiness of the state election machinery ahead of polling.
Meanwhile, the window for citizens to file claims and submit objections regarding voter roll entries remains open until October 26. This period allows registered voters to correct their details and unregistered eligible citizens to apply for enrollment on the electoral roll.
The Electoral Registration Officers at the grassroots level are responsible for verifying the discrepancies, cross-referencing data, and preparing the final lists for publication. Officials attributed the ongoing delays to the scale of verification required across Maharashtra's numerous constituencies.
The state election commission has emphasized that all procedural requirements will be completed before the formal announcement of the election schedule, though the extended timeline for discrepancy publication has drawn scrutiny from observer groups monitoring electoral preparedness.
