Election officials cite multiple reasons for the mass deletion, with the largest category—75 lakh entries, or roughly 37% of the total—classified as voters who were absent or could not be located at their registered addresses.
The deletions were not uniformly distributed across the state. Thane district emerged as the epicenter of the revision process, accounting for more than 38% of all names struck off the electoral roll. This concentration suggests regional variations in voter migration, address verification challenges, or demographic shifts within the district.
The special summary revision process, conducted at the state level, appears designed to maintain the accuracy and integrity of electoral records by identifying and removing entries for voters no longer residing at their registered locations.
