Maharashtra enables offline crop registration as digital app faces technical issues

Following directions from Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule, Maharashtra's revenue department issued a Government Resolution on Friday permitting offline crop registration at talathi offices in areas where online registration remains incomplete. The measure addresses persistent technical glitches affecting farmers attempting to register their crop details during the current Kharif season.

Maharashtra introduced its e-crop inspection system on August 15, 2021, to streamline the registration process and improve transparency. The system was designed to enable farmers to submit crop information through mobile applications, reducing administrative burden and enhancing accessibility across the state.

The state government implemented technical modifications to the Digital Crop Survey application from December 1, 2024, to integrate registration with the AgriStack platform. However, the upgraded system has encountered operational problems that have hindered farmers' ability to complete online registrations during the critical Kharif cropping period.

The offline registration facility through talathi offices represents a contingency measure to ensure farmers can fulfill their registration requirements without further delays. Officials indicated that the alternative pathway will remain available until technical issues with the digital platform are fully resolved.
