The Maharashtra FDA has intensified its enforcement action against illegal pharmaceutical and cosmetic operations, confiscating contraband goods worth ₹34.51 lakh during recent inspections across the state. As part of this crackdown, the regulatory body has cancelled 122 licences held by non-compliant manufacturers and distributors.
The seizures underscore growing concerns about the proliferation of substandard and spurious medicines in the market. Officials flagged the illegal manufacture and distribution of pharmaceutical products as a significant public health risk, emphasizing the need for stricter vigilance.
In response to these findings, the FDA has launched a public awareness initiative urging citizens to become active participants in drug safety oversight. The agency is requesting reports of suspected illegal drug manufacturing operations, unauthorized sales of pharmaceuticals, and products failing quality standards.
Complaints regarding substandard drugs, medical devices, and cosmetics can be filed directly with the FDA commissioner's office or submitted to the nearest district office. The move reflects the regulator's strategy of leveraging community engagement to supplement its inspection and surveillance capabilities across Maharashtra.
