The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has seized a substantial quantity of ghee from Divya Mahavitarak, an authorised distributor of Patanjali products, in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district. The confiscated stock, comprising 2,279.7 litres, has been valued at ₹20.20 lakh.
FDA officials initiated the action based on preliminary investigations suggesting the ghee may have been subject to misbranding or adulteration. The regulatory body has also suspended the distributor's operating licences pending a detailed examination of the seized stock and business practices.
The development marks another regulatory intervention targeting Patanjali, the Haridwar-based Ayurveda company founded by Ramdev, which has faced multiple FDA actions across Indian states in recent months. The Maharashtra action underscores ongoing scrutiny by food safety authorities regarding product quality and labelling compliance in the packaged food sector.
FDA officials have not yet disclosed the specific nature of suspected adulteration or mislabelling. Further investigation and laboratory analysis of the seized ghee samples are expected to determine the exact cause for the enforcement action.
