Maharashtra's Food and Drug Administration chief Tukaram Mundhe has pledged swift action following a complaint from a customer who discovered a dead rat in a dosa served at a restaurant in Borivali, Mumbai.
The incident has raised fresh concerns about hygiene standards at food establishments in the metropolitan area. Mundhe said the regulatory authority would take appropriate steps against the eatery once a formal complaint is registered.
The FDA chief urged the affected customer to approach the food safety regulator directly to lodge an official complaint, which would enable the department to initiate an investigation and impose penalties if violations are confirmed.
The discovery comes amid ongoing scrutiny of food safety practices at restaurants and small eateries across Mumbai. Regulatory authorities have been intensifying inspections to ensure compliance with food handling and hygiene standards, particularly following customer grievances.
