The Chief Electoral Officer of Maharashtra has processed over 6.24 lakh forms submitted by citizens seeking to register as new voters or correct their existing entries on the electoral rolls, officials said on Tuesday.
The forms were filed during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, which enables registered voters to apply for corrections and unregistered citizens to seek enrollment. Pune district leads the state with 56,605 applications, reflecting substantial citizen engagement in the electoral registration process.
In response to the volume of applications and to allow adequate time for processing, the state election commission has extended the claims and objections period until October 12. This extension provides both election officials and applicants additional time to verify information and address any discrepancies in voter records.
The Special Intensive Revision is a periodic process undertaken by electoral authorities to maintain accuracy of voter rolls by incorporating eligible new registrants and correcting existing entries. The extended deadline underscores the significance of this exercise in ensuring that electoral records remain current and comprehensive ahead of future elections.
