Maharashtra poll chief seeks ECINet software overhaul for Electoral Officers

Maharashtra's Chief Electoral Officer S. Chokalingam has written to Election Commission of India officials highlighting technical limitations in the ECINet software platform used for electoral administration. In his September 24 communication, Chokalingam outlined five modifications deemed necessary to streamline backend operations and administrative workflows.
The officer stressed that current system constraints are creating procedural bottlenecks that hamper Electoral Registration Officers' ability to exercise powers vested in them under electoral law. The flagged issues appear to centre on functional gaps between the software's design and the constitutional mandate of ground-level electoral officials.
Chokalingam's intervention reflects growing feedback from state-level election machinery regarding the usability of centralized ECI digital infrastructure. Electoral Registration Officers, tasked with voter registration, boundary delimitation, and related duties, have reportedly faced limitations in executing certain functions through the existing software architecture.
