Maharashtra releases draft electoral roll; 2.08 crore voters missing

Maharashtra has released the draft electoral roll covering all 288 Assembly constituencies, prompting eligible citizens to check whether their names appear on the voter list. The publication marks a crucial step in the electoral process ahead of forthcoming Assembly elections in the state.

However, the draft roll has raised concerns about voter inclusion, with at least 2.08 crore voters from Maharashtra's pre-poll electorate absent from the published list. This significant gap suggests that a substantial portion of the state's eligible population may not be registered to vote.

Electoral authorities have called on citizens to verify their voter registration status through official channels. Those whose names do not appear can file applications for inclusion during the designated period for corrections and additions to the electoral roll.

The draft roll publication is a standard procedural requirement, with provisions for objections and amendments before the final roll is notified. Citizens have the opportunity to either register as new voters or request corrections to existing entries during this phase.
