Vote counting in Maharashtra's Legislative Council elections continued Monday as the ruling Mahayuti alliance demonstrated a commanding position across multiple constituencies. Of the five seats that went to the electorate, the Mahayuti-led coalition maintained leads in three seats, while the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi alliance held advantages in two seats.
The BJP, the principal component of the Mahayuti government, showed strong performance in two key constituencies. The saffron party held leads in both the Pune teachers' and Nagpur graduates constituencies as counting progressed through the second day of tabulation. These seats traditionally represent organized constituencies with educated electorates.
The Shiv Sena, another Mahayuti constituent, maintained its lead in the Amravati teachers constituency, reflecting the coalition's dominance across educational constituency segments. The teachers' and graduates' constituencies represent specialized voting blocs within the state's electoral framework.
The opposition MVA, comprising the Nationalist Congress Party, Congress, and Shiv Sena (UBT), secured leads in the remaining two constituencies under contest. The results reflect the ongoing political competition between the two alliances in the state's upper house elections.
The Legislative Council elections tested voter preferences ahead of broader state political contests and demonstrated shifting dynamics in Maharashtra's electoral landscape.
