Mahindra vehicle sales surge 42% in August on robust SUV demand

Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd posted robust August sales figures on Tuesday, with total vehicle deliveries reaching 1,07,648 units, marking a 42 per cent increase compared to the same month last year. The growth was underpinned by strong demand for SUVs, which have emerged as a key growth driver for the automaker.

Utility vehicles dominated the company's sales performance, with domestic deliveries of 59,257 units representing 50 per cent year-on-year growth. Including exports, the company sold 61,167 utility vehicles during the month. The strong SUV momentum reflects shifting consumer preferences toward higher-margin segments in India's automotive market.

Commercial vehicle sales also showed resilience, with domestic deliveries reaching 27,415 units, up 22 per cent year-on-year. The company attributed the gains across its portfolio to strong customer response to recently updated models, particularly the Scorpio-N and the newly launched BE 6 SPORTEQ electric SUV.

"Demand continues to remain strong across our portfolio, with the updated Scorpio-N and BE 6 SPORTEQ receiving strong market response from customers," the company said in a statement. Mahindra management expressed confidence in sustaining the momentum through the festive season, a traditionally buoyant period for automobile sales in India.
