Mainboard IPOs raise ₹44,451 crore in October as Jio dominates

India's mainboard IPO market showed robust growth in October, with total fundraising reaching ₹44,451 crore, marking a 12.9% increase from the previous month. The surge was predominantly fuelled by the listing of Jio Platforms, which single-handedly captured nearly 68% of the month's total IPO proceeds, underscoring the scale and investor appetite for major-ticket offerings.

The strong mainboard performance contrasted sharply with weakness in the SME IPO segment, which experienced a precipitous 70% decline to ₹643 crore during the same period. The divergence highlights a bifurcated market where large-cap listings continue to attract substantial institutional capital, while smaller enterprises face headwinds in raising equity capital through public offerings.

The October figures reflect ongoing investor confidence in marquee corporate listings, with Jio Platforms' successful debut demonstrating continued institutional appetite for high-quality large-cap issuances. However, the weakness in SME fundraising suggests challenges persist for smaller companies seeking to access capital markets, potentially reflecting concerns about market breadth and retail investor participation in mid-market segments.
