Work has started on an 180-megawatt wind power plant in Gia Lai province, marking another milestone in Vietnam's push to increase renewable energy capacity in the central highlands region. The project adds to an ambitious pipeline of clean energy initiatives across the province, which is positioning itself as a major renewable energy hub.
Gia Lai province currently has over 100 potential renewable energy projects under development, with a combined capacity exceeding 32,000 megawatts, according to local authorities. This substantial pipeline underscores the region's significant potential for harnessing wind and other clean energy resources.
To date, 85 renewable energy projects with a combined operational capacity of 4,271 megawatts have achieved commercial operation in the province. The expansion demonstrates sustained momentum in Vietnam's renewable energy sector, with multiple provinces advancing major capacity additions.
The wind power development aligns with Vietnam's broader energy transition goals and follows similar projects across the country. Recent developments include offshore wind power initiatives in Ca Mau and expanded wind capacity projects in Quang Tri province, reflecting nationwide efforts to diversify the energy mix and reduce reliance on conventional power sources.
