Major cannabis haul seized at Colombo's main international airport
Police narcotics officers have seized a substantial quantity of high-grade cannabis discovered in abandoned luggage at Bandaranaike International Airport. The contraband, valued at approximately Rs. 320 million, was found near baggage handling facilities on Friday morning.

Officers attached to the Police Narcotics Bureau's airport unit made the seizure near Baggage Belt No. 06 at the airport's main terminal on Friday, September 15. The cannabis, identified as premium-grade "Kush" strain, was located in luggage that had been left unattended in the baggage area.
The estimated street value of the seized narcotics places the discovery among significant drug interdictions at the airport in recent months. The PNB unit has intensified inspections at the country's primary international gateway as part of ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking through air routes.
The circumstances surrounding the abandoned luggage remain unclear. Investigations are ongoing to determine the origin of the shipment and identify any individuals connected to the contraband. The seized cannabis has been placed in police custody pending further proceedings.
