Major fire ravages textile factory at Subic Freeport

A major fire consumed a factory at the Subic Bay Freeport on Thursday, with firefighters struggling to contain the blaze for close to eight hours before declaring it under control at 5:45 a.m., the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority reported.

The fire ignited at the Jinboway facility located within Subic Gateway Park Phase II, one of the freeport's industrial zones. According to SBMA Communications Head Armie Llamas, the flames spread with unusual speed across the complex, with textile materials stored at the site acting as accelerants that intensified the fire's progression.

The extent of damage to the facility and surrounding structures was not immediately quantified. No initial reports indicated casualties, though investigations into the cause of the fire were expected to follow the emergency response. The incident marked a significant event for the Subic Bay Freeport, a major industrial and commercial hub in Zambales province.
