A joint operation involving the Navy, Police and multiple security agencies resulted in the significant drug seizure on the morning of 15 December at Kapparathota Beach in the Southern District. The recovery represents one of the larger heroin busts reported in recent months along Sri Lanka's coastline.
The Navy apprehended five suspects whose interrogation led authorities to the location of the concealed narcotics. The coordinated response, which mobilized the Police Special Task Force alongside naval personnel, allowed security forces to move swiftly on the intelligence gathered.
The operation underscores ongoing efforts by Sri Lankan law enforcement to intercept large-scale drug trafficking operations targeting the island. Heroin continues to represent a significant trafficking concern, with organized criminal networks reportedly using coastal areas to smuggle contraband into the country.
Authorities have not yet released further details regarding the suspects or the intended destination of the seized heroin. The case is expected to be referred to relevant prosecuting authorities for further investigation and legal proceedings.
