A significant blackout affected multiple areas of Maharashtra's Pune region Wednesday after a substation in Chinchwad experienced an explosion followed by a fire, authorities said. The incident occurred at the facility's transformer, cutting power to approximately 3.10 lakh consumers across Pimpri-Chinchwad and several Pune neighborhoods during midday hours. Power restoration efforts continued into the evening across affected localities. The Pune Metro system experienced temporary service disruptions as a result of the outage but resumed normal operations after the initial impact. Officials did not immediately disclose the cause of the substation explosion or provide details on the duration of repairs needed at the facility.
