Majority of retailers win extension for non-BCRS beverage stock clearance

Over 2,000 smaller retailers have submitted applications seeking extended deadlines to clear inventory of non-BCRS compliant beverages, according to regulatory filings reviewed by LSN News. The bulk beverage coding and responsibility scheme (BCRS) mandates specific labelling standards for drinks sold in Singapore. Among the more than 1,600 applications processed thus far, approximately 85 per cent have received approval, indicating broad acceptance of retailers' requests for additional time to comply. The high approval rate suggests authorities are accommodating the operational challenges faced by smaller merchants in transitioning to the new requirements. Retailers operating with limited stock turnover have cited difficulties in disposing of existing inventory within original compliance timelines. The extension programme appears designed to balance regulatory enforcement with the practical constraints facing independent and neighbourhood retailers across Singapore.
