Malaysia aims to bring back Langkawi leg of LTdL next year

The popular international cycling race will not feature a Langkawi leg in its 2024 edition, with organisers citing budgetary limitations and elevated transportation costs as key factors behind the decision.

Minister Taufiq Mohamad said the ministry remains committed to bringing back the iconic stage, which has been a highlight of the cycling calendar in the region. The Langkawi leg has historically attracted international cyclists and generated significant economic and tourism benefits for the state.

"We are working towards restoring the Langkawi stage in next year's race," the minister stated, emphasising that the temporary setback reflects current financial constraints rather than a permanent withdrawal from the event.

The Le Tour de Langkawi is one of Asia's premier cycling competitions, drawing professional and amateur cyclists from across the region and beyond. The race typically showcases Malaysia's natural attractions and infrastructure capabilities on an international stage.

Official discussions between the ministry, state authorities, and race organisers are expected to resume in coming months to finalise arrangements for the event's return to Langkawi.
