KOTA BHARU — The Malaysian government is directing RM15.96 million towards enhancing Islamic education facilities and programmes in Kelantan, reinforcing its commitment to religious education development in the northeastern state.
The funding package comprises RM9.36 million earmarked for 23 Islamic schools, alongside an additional RM6.6 million allocation for broader Islamic educational initiatives throughout the state. The investment underscores federal efforts to modernise and expand religious schooling infrastructure at a time when demand for quality Islamic education remains robust across Malaysia.
This financial commitment follows a series of government measures aimed at strengthening the Islamic education sector, which plays a significant role in Malaysia's education ecosystem. Kelantan, with its strong Islamic heritage and substantial student population in religious schools, has been identified as a priority area for such developmental investments.
The allocation is expected to support infrastructure improvements, curriculum development, and teacher training programmes across the participating institutions. Officials indicated that the initiative forms part of a comprehensive strategy to ensure Islamic schools meet contemporary educational standards while maintaining their religious and moral teaching obligations.
The funding announcement comes as policymakers emphasise the importance of balancing academic excellence with Islamic values in the nation's education system.
