KUALA LUMPUR — Malaysia's Digital Ministry is accelerating efforts to strengthen its artificial intelligence training modules in response to escalating threats from deepfakes and online scams, Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo announced Monday. The move reflects growing concerns about the misuse of AI technology across the region and the need for enhanced public awareness and technical safeguards. The reinforced training initiatives aim to equip both government personnel and the public with better tools to identify and counter AI-generated fraudulent content and cybercriminal activities. Gobind said the ministry recognises the dual-edged nature of AI advancement, with legitimate applications requiring careful balance against emerging risks. The strengthened modules will focus on practical skills to detect manipulated media and recognise sophisticated scam tactics that leverage artificial intelligence. Malaysia joins other regional nations in prioritising digital security and public education as AI adoption accelerates across the economy and society.
