Malaysia's competition watchdog said it will extend comprehensive protections and rewards to whistleblowers who report cartel activities, pending approval of amendments to key legislation. The Malaysian Competition Commission (MyCC) confirmed that revisions to the Competition Act 2010 and the Competition Commission Act 2010 are scheduled for gazette publication this year, enabling the regulator to implement more robust safeguards for informants. The expanded framework aims to encourage greater cooperation from individuals with knowledge of anti-competitive behaviour by guaranteeing their safety and offering financial incentives. MyCC officials indicated that the legislative changes will strengthen existing whistleblower provisions, allowing the commission to shield informants more effectively while pursuing enforcement action against cartels. The move reflects growing international recognition of whistleblower programmes as essential tools for detecting and dismantling cartel operations across sectors of the economy.
