As part of Budget 2027 initiatives, Malaysia's government has rolled out relief measures for National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) borrowers facing financial constraints. The new scheme provides full repayment deferment for those earning RM2,500 or below, easing immediate financial burdens for lower-income earners.
Borrowers in the RM2,501 to RM3,000 monthly income bracket will be required to make minimum monthly payments of RM50, striking a balance between debt servicing and affordability. The tiered approach acknowledges varying income levels among the loan-holding population and aims to prevent defaults among vulnerable segments.
The measure forms part of the government's broader social support framework, targeting relief for households managing multiple financial obligations. Officials have indicated the scheme aims to improve loan sustainability and reduce default rates among economically disadvantaged borrowers.
The deferment and reduced payment scheme is expected to benefit a significant portion of PTPTN's borrower base, particularly fresh graduates and young professionals navigating early career stages with modest income levels. Implementation details and application procedures were expected to be outlined by the PTPTN in subsequent announcements.
