Malaysia deploys K9 units at KLIA from late October

Kuala Lumpur International Airport will introduce canine detection units across multiple operational zones from October 26, marking an expansion of the airport's security infrastructure. The K9 units will be positioned in departure and arrival halls, as well as baggage sorting facilities to strengthen screening protocols.

The deployment represents a standard security enhancement at major aviation hubs, where trained dogs are utilised to detect prohibited items and substances. The sniffer dogs will operate alongside existing security checkpoints and screening systems at the airport.

The move comes as KLIA continues to modernise its security operations to maintain international standards and ensure passenger safety. The airport, which serves as Malaysia's primary international gateway, processes hundreds of thousands of passengers monthly.

Authorities have not indicated whether the K9 unit deployment is temporary or permanent, nor have they specified the exact number of dogs that will be deployed across the designated areas.
