Malaysia deploys specialist SMART team to earthquake-hit Nepal

Malaysia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the deployment of the SMART (Specialised Malaysian Advanced Rescue Team) unit to Nepal, with the contingent scheduled to arrive on Wednesday. The team comprises 11 personnel selected for their expertise in search and rescue operations.

The unit has been outfitted with high-capability unmanned aerial vehicles and specialized equipment designed to support rescue and recovery efforts in challenging terrain. The advanced drone systems will enable aerial reconnaissance and assessment of affected areas, while the specialized gear will enhance the team's operational capacity in the field.

The deployment reflects Malaysia's commitment to providing humanitarian assistance to neighbouring countries in times of crisis. The SMART team will work in coordination with local Nepalese authorities and international partners already engaged in relief and rescue operations.

This marks Malaysia's contribution to the international response mobilized following recent seismic activity in Nepal. The Malaysian team is expected to provide critical support in search operations and damage assessment during the initial phase of the relief effort.
