KUALA LUMPUR — Malaysia's Ministry of Digital has launched a major digital literacy programme, making 100,000 Coursera licences available to citizens through the Rakyat Digital platform.

The initiative forms part of the broader AI Nation 2030 strategy, aimed at positioning Malaysia as a competitive player in artificial intelligence and digital innovation. By providing free access to world-class online courses, the government seeks to equip workers with skills needed for the evolving digital economy.

MyDigital Corporation, the ministry's implementation arm, will oversee distribution of the learning licences to eligible participants. The Coursera platform offers courses ranging from technical programming and data science to business and creative fields, allowing beneficiaries to pursue qualifications tailored to market demand.

The move addresses growing concerns about skills gaps in Malaysia's workforce, particularly as industries increasingly adopt AI and automation technologies. Officials frame the initiative as critical infrastructure for ensuring broad-based participation in the digital transformation.

The scheme represents one of several government interventions designed to democratise access to upskilling opportunities and support workforce readiness across both urban and rural areas.
