Malaysia extends electricity bill relief for households until year-end

KUALA LUMPUR — Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim announced the government has widened electricity bill protections for Malaysian households, exempting those consuming up to 800 kilowatt-hours monthly from the Additional Fuel Adjustment, Retail Charge and Sales and Service Tax until the end of the year.
The expanded relief represents an increase from the previous 600 kilowatt-hour threshold and comes as the country grapples with elevated temperatures and regional haze conditions that have boosted cooling demands across the nation.
The exemptions apply to domestic consumers' electricity bills during the specified period, reducing their overall utility costs during the extended hot and hazy season.
