Malaysia F1 return feasibility study to go before Cabinet this month

The Sepang International Circuit is preparing to present findings from a detailed examination of Malaysia's prospects for re-entering the Formula One calendar, with the proposal set to reach Cabinet level in the coming weeks.

According to the circuit's chief executive, any viable window for Malaysia to secure a Formula One race slot would not open until 2029 at the earliest. This timeline reflects both the current commitments of the F1 schedule and the lead time required for circuit preparations and regulatory approvals.

Malaysia previously hosted the Malaysian Grand Prix at Sepang from 1999 to 2017, establishing itself as a significant fixture on the international racing calendar. The 16-year run made the country a marquee destination for motorsport enthusiasts across the region.

The feasibility study will reportedly address technical, financial, and operational requirements needed to restore Malaysia's position within the F1 championship. Officials will need to demonstrate sufficient infrastructure capability and secure necessary funding commitments before proceeding with formal negotiations with Formula One Management.

The Cabinet's response to the study will be crucial in determining whether Malaysia pursues active discussions with F1 officials regarding a return to the sport's premier racing series.
