Malaysia Has Received No Fresh Extradition Request for Zakir Naik: Saifuddin

Malaysia has not received any new extradition request from India regarding Islamic preacher Zakir Naik, Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution said, putting to rest speculation about potential deportation proceedings. The minister stressed that no commitment has been made to hand over the controversial figure, who has been a subject of diplomatic tension between Kuala Lumpur and New Delhi. Zakir Naik, who arrived in Malaysia in 2017, has been granted permanent resident status by the Malaysian government despite India's designation of him as a terror suspect and repeated calls for his extradition. India has previously sought his return to face allegations of money laundering and incitement to terrorism, charges which Zakir Naik and his supporters have consistently denied. The preacher's presence in Malaysia has remained a contentious issue, with Kuala Lumpur maintaining that there is insufficient evidence to support the Indian authorities' claims and that his fundamental rights must be protected under Malaysian law.
