Malaysia, Indonesia to convene talks on transboundary haze

Malaysia and Indonesia have scheduled high-level talks in Penang to tackle the persistent problem of transboundary haze that periodically affects air quality across the region. The meeting is expected to take place within the next two months, bringing together officials from both countries to discuss collaborative solutions.

Transboundary haze, predominantly caused by land and forest fires in Indonesia that spread across maritime borders, has long been a contentious environmental issue in Southeast Asia. Malaysia regularly experiences degraded air quality during the dry season, prompting calls for stronger bilateral cooperation and enforcement mechanisms.
