Malaysia launches free medicine delivery service for eligible patients

The Ministry of Health unveiled the Ubat Melalui Pos (UMP) programme, a new service designed to enhance convenience and accessibility for patients requiring regular medication. Under the scheme, qualifying individuals can have their prescribed medicines delivered directly to their homes through the postal system, eliminating the need for repeated pharmacy visits.

The UMP programme targets patients with chronic conditions who require ongoing pharmaceutical treatment. The service operates on a subsidised basis, with the government covering delivery costs for eligible applicants. Participants must meet specific criteria to qualify, with priority given to those facing mobility challenges or living in remote areas with limited healthcare facility access.

To enrol in the programme, interested individuals must apply through their healthcare provider or the nearest government health clinic. Applicants are required to submit relevant medical documentation and identification details. Once approved, patients will receive their medications on a regular schedule determined by their treating physician.

The initiative represents part of the government's broader effort to strengthen the public healthcare system and reduce the financial burden on Malaysian patients managing chronic illnesses. Officials have indicated that the programme may be expanded to include additional medications and patient categories in future phases.
