KUALA LUMPUR — Malaysia has rolled out the Media Innovation Fund 2.0, a RM30 million initiative designed to support newsrooms and protect jobs across the country's media landscape.
The fund represents the government's continued commitment to supporting the media industry during a period of significant transformation. The initiative is intended to assist news organisations in adapting to technological changes and evolving audience preferences while maintaining editorial independence and quality journalism.
Bernama, the national news agency, has highlighted that the fund addresses critical challenges facing the sector, including workforce sustainability and the need for modern digital infrastructure. The programme is expected to enable newsrooms to invest in new technologies, staff training, and content development.
The Media Innovation Fund 2.0 builds on lessons from the initial fund, with improved targeting to ensure resources reach organisations most in need of support. Officials said the initiative reflects broader efforts to nurture a resilient and sustainable media environment capable of serving the Malaysian public effectively.
Details regarding application procedures and eligibility criteria for the fund are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
