Malaysia's minimum monthly pension will rise to RM1,350 from the current RM1,000, representing a 35 percent increase in the baseline pension amount. The adjustment will take effect across all eligible pensioner categories, providing immediate relief to recipients who have faced mounting living costs in recent years.
The increase is expected to benefit approximately 59,000 individuals, including civil service retirees, armed forces veterans and recipients of derivative pensions. Derivative pension recipients—typically family members who receive benefits following the death of a primary pensioner—will also be eligible for the enhanced minimum payment.
The pension enhancement reflects government efforts to strengthen the social safety net for Malaysia's elderly and veteran populations. As the cost of living continues to rise across essential services and goods, the adjustment aims to ensure that pensioners maintain adequate purchasing power and financial dignity in retirement.
The move comes as Malaysia continues to balance fiscal priorities with social welfare commitments. Pension recipients will see the higher payments reflected in subsequent payment cycles, with the exact implementation timeline to be announced by relevant government authorities.
