Malaysia mobilises over 100,000 rescue personnel ahead of monsoon season

PUCHONG — Malaysia's disaster management authorities have activated a comprehensive emergency response framework ahead of the seasonal north-east monsoon, deploying personnel from multiple rescue and relief agencies across the country.

According to officials, 101,901 rescue workers from various agencies have been placed on standby status, positioned to respond rapidly to flooding incidents and weather-related emergencies. The nationwide mobilisation reflects preparations for the monsoon period, which typically brings heavy rainfall and increased flood risk to northern and eastern regions.

Disaster management officials have completed a detailed mapping exercise identifying 3,045 flood hotspots nationwide. These designated high-risk areas will receive prioritised attention from rapid response teams and preventive measures during the monsoon months.

The standby deployment represents a coordinated effort involving federal, state and local emergency services. Personnel have been strategically stationed to minimise response times to vulnerable communities and critical infrastructure areas.

Authorities continue monitoring weather forecasts and conducting final preparations at evacuation centres and relief distribution points throughout the country ahead of the expected seasonal weather transition.
