Malaysia would require a structured five-year roadmap to successfully bid for and stage a Formula 1 Grand Prix, according to FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem. Speaking on the prospects of the Southeast Asian nation returning to the F1 calendar, Sulayem stressed that any such effort would demand sustained commitment and investment from stakeholders. The return of F1 racing to Malaysia, which last hosted the sport in 2017 at the Sepang International Circuit, would hinge on securing adequate financial backing, robust promotional strategies, and comprehensive logistical planning. Sulayem emphasized that these three pillars—funding, marketing, and operational infrastructure—would form the foundation of a credible candidacy. The FIA chief's remarks suggest that while Malaysia remains a viable prospect for future F1 events, the nation's motorsport authorities and government would need to demonstrate long-term commitment and tangible progress across all these areas before any hosting agreement could be finalized.
