Malaysia plantation ministry defends decision to place LGMPC into dormancy
Plantation and Commodities Minister Noraini Ahmad has cited performance issues since 2018 as the reason behind placing the Lembaga Getah Malaysia Pengguna Contoh (LGMPC) into dormancy. The minister stated that all staff members were offered and accepted the Malaysia Separation Scheme (MSS) without any absorption into other rubber boards.

Noraini Ahmad said the government's decision to place the LGMPC into dormancy stems from the body's performance track record over the past six years, marking a shift in how Malaysia manages its rubber commodity operations.
Under the transition arrangement, the entire workforce opted for the MSS package rather than seeking alternative employment within Malaysia's rubber sector institutions. The minister emphasised that the process was conducted transparently, with staff given the opportunity to accept separation benefits.
The LGMPC, which served as a demonstration and training body for rubber production practices, had faced mounting questions about its operational efficiency and relevance within Malaysia's broader rubber industry framework.
The decision represents part of a broader restructuring within the plantation and commodities sector, as the government seeks to streamline its institutional arrangements and redirect resources toward higher-priority initiatives. Officials indicated that the dormancy status does not preclude future reactivation should operational conditions warrant such action.
