Malaysia raises fuel prices by 15 sen amid global crude pressures

Malaysia has increased retail prices for unsubsidised RON97 and RON95 petrol by 15 sen per litre, reflecting persistent global crude oil pressures despite a gradual recovery in supply flows from Western Asia.

The price adjustment underscores the continued volatility in international energy markets, where crude remains expensive despite improving output from major Middle Eastern producers. The recovery in crude supplies from the region has not been sufficient to bring down global benchmark prices to levels that would ease pressure on domestic fuel costs.

The unsubsidised fuel grades have borne the brunt of international price movements, as Malaysia's fuel price structure allows these variants to fluctuate more directly with global markets. Consumers reliant on RON97 and RON95 petrol will face higher costs at the pump, adding to household and business expenses amid broader inflationary pressures.

Energy analysts note that while crude production in Western Asia shows signs of recovery, geopolitical tensions and production discipline among major exporters continue to support higher price levels globally. The situation reflects the complex interplay between supply recovery and demand dynamics that will likely keep fuel prices elevated in the near term.
