Malaysia receives first two FA-50M fighter jets Friday

Malaysia is set to receive its first two FA-50M fighter jets on Friday, marking a significant milestone in the country's air force modernisation efforts. Defence Minister Khaled Nordin announced the delivery, which represents the beginning of a comprehensive procurement initiative.

The two aircraft form part of a broader acquisition of 18 FA-50M jets, with the total value of the contract reaching approximately RM4 billion. The light combat aircraft are expected to strengthen the Royal Malaysian Air Force's operational capabilities and bolster the nation's defence infrastructure.

The FA-50M is a multirole fighter developed by South Korea's Korea Aerospace Industries. The aircraft is designed for air-to-air combat, ground attack, and reconnaissance missions, offering advanced avionics and weapon systems suited to modern defence requirements.

The phased delivery of the 18 aircraft is expected to continue over the coming years, with each batch enhancing the air force's fleet modernisation programme. The acquisition reflects Malaysia's commitment to upgrading its military capabilities amid evolving regional security considerations.
