Malaysia rolls out RM1,000 assistance for taxi, rental car and school bus drivers

The Malaysian government will begin distributing RM1,000 assistance payments to taxi drivers, car rental operators and school bus drivers from Wednesday, marking a targeted support measure for the transport sector.

The one-time payment initiative encompasses roughly 53,000 eligible recipients across the three transport categories. Authorities have structured the rollout to ensure Hindu drivers receive their payments before Deepavali, aligning the assistance with the significant festival period.

The scheme represents a direct financial intervention aimed at easing financial pressures on transport workers amid ongoing economic challenges. School bus drivers, taxi operators and rental car drivers have been identified as priority beneficiaries under the programme.

Government officials have framed the initiative as part of broader efforts to support frontline transport workers who form a critical component of Malaysia's service economy. The phased distribution beginning Wednesday will determine how quickly the funds reach eligible recipients across the country.
